Sweet Mother,

Self-deception has a thousand faces and a thousand ways of disguising itself in us. How can one discover it and get rid of it?

It is a long, slow task which can only be accomplished by a perfect sincerity. One must be very attentive, always on guard, [new p. 296]watch all one's emotional movements and vital reactions, never close one's eyes with indulgence to one's own weaknesses, and catch oneself each time one makes a mistake, even a small one.

If one continues with persistence, this becomes very interesting and gets easier and easier.
